Summer Fun!

We've been having a super summer with the dogs. Flynn and Beth took a road trip to Michigan with handler Erica Sanden Cross to show at Michigan Sporting Dogs and the Barbet Club of America supported entries in Monroe, MI. Friday and Saturday, Flynn won Best of Breed, then on Sunday our 8 month old puppy Beth won Best of Breed over a beautiful entry of mature Barbet.

Last weekend, David and I took Flynn and our grandpuppy Otis to Duke's K9 Splash & Dash in Mantua, Ohio for the hot, busy, and awesome dock diving competition. Otis jumped a personal best of 23'8" and earned his Dock Master NADD title!

Flynn was all set to earn her Junior dock diving title, but on her final splash jumped 15'5", putting her into the Senior division! Flynn will have to wait a few more weeks to earn her first dock diving title but it was fantastic to see how much she loved jumping into the big pool!

Congratulations to Sam and Otis for earning Otis' Junior Hunter title today. Many hours of training and practice have gone into this title and I am so proud of both of them!

June Dog Fun

Russell

Russell won Best of Winners in Canton, OH June 10 under Barbara Alderman for two more points. He has settled in nicely with dog show training and is really enjoying his time in the show ring.

Otis

 The amazing Hickory Tavern Superdog JH, Otis, is owned by Sam Descutner and the two of them have worked very hard training for field events. Otis has a ton of drive and I recently competed with him in Mantua, OH at an NADD dock diving event where his one and only splash resulted in a Master's level jump of 20'6". I'm really looking forward to more dock diving with this fun guy!

Finally, Flynn got an OFA rating of 'Good' on her hips. This was great news as we prepare to breed Flynn later this year.

We're Celebrating a Corgi Birthday!

 

Our beautiful boy Roger is now one year old! Today he received lots of fun gifts and was a very good sport about wearing his birthday bandana :) This little guy has brought us so much happiness. We can never thank Anne Bowes enough for letting him come to us. His sweet and sunny personality makes him a very popular boy around here!

Morgantown, WV Weekend

The puppy boys had a super successful weekend in Morgantown, WV this weekend. Roger won Winners Dog for points Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Russell won Best of Breed over specials for points toward his championship Thursday, Friday, and Saturday! This was Roger's last outing in the puppy class. He is currently shedding his coat and will be staying home to grow up a bit. Russell just turned 9 months old and showed like a season veteran this weekend. So proud of my pups!

Barbet Flynn is Two Today!

Happy birthday to this beautiful little lady! Flynn and her siblings Seven, Penny, Aquila, Penn, Hamish, and Willow are two years old today. These pups have the most wonderful temperaments - outgoing, confident, and fun! Thanks to Anne Plomp and Marian Vos for sharing Thibault with us for Solene's second litter. We are so very pleased with how Flynn is growing up. She's delightful!

Solene is #1 Barbet in UKC for 2017

With her Best in Show win at the United Barbet Club Specialty, Solene sealed her position as the #1 Barbet in UKC for 2017. Her half sister Alainn, Hickory Tavern Finally Friday, was just one point behind in the standings. Alainn is owned by Lynn Vogt-Kinsey and Leslie Woodward. We're proud of our girls! As the #1 Barbet, Solene received her invitation to compete in the UKC Top Ten show this June in Kalamazoo. 

Roger's First AKC Points

Roger won his first points this past weekend in Tallmadge, OH at the Barkarita dog shows. Thanks to judge Joan Luna Liebes for such a pleasant show experience.

Starting Your Puppy the Wildrose Way

My son Sam has a field-bred Labrador who he is currently training and I bought him the book Sporting Dog and Retriever Training The Wildrose Way: Raising a Gentleman's Gundog for Home and Field for Christmas. Wildrose has a big program in the retrieving world and although the gundogs are not my primary focus, I have a huge appreciation for the work that they do. Much of the basic training that Wildrose covers can apply beautifully to a well-raised Barbet puppy. I highly recommend this book. Wildrose also has a new line of short puppy training videos, with another released each week, added to their extensive video library. Goodbye Little Guy

Our final puppy to place left us this weekend. The yellow boy, now called 'Luke', lives just an hour away from us in Ohio. Luke has big shoes to fill in his new home; owners Debbie and Doug lost their longtime love Phoebe and bringing a new pup into the family is a very big yet bittersweet step. We wish them all well creating new memories!

Our second southern girl left us this week as Milli moved to Alabama with Logan, Mallory, and their adorable daughter. Logan's dad was good enough to make the long drive with Logan to pick up their new pup. Milli is destined for field training in the marshy areas of Oneonta and we can't wait to see how she progresses.

This fortunate pup is off to a fun life with Janie and Paul in eastern Pennsylvania. 'Merchant' has a beautiful 4.5 month old Portuguese Water Dog sister named Portia to play with and we wish the best for our sweet green collar pup.

Off to Tuscaloosa, Alabama is Nixie, our orange collar girl. This little princess is going to be spoiled by Lee and Amanda and their children. Nixie will be attending kids sporting events, playing at the farm, and being a Barbet Ambassador in a cool new state. We are hoping that our paths will cross again in the future with this sweet family!

Hickory Tavern Forget About It

Our second pup left us today. Lucky Roux will live with her big Barbet brother Bocuse in Jersey City, NJ along with Lauren, Ryan, and Teddy. Roux is a particularly gentle pup within this litter and it will be exciting to see her transform into a stylish city girl. 

Hickory Tavern For What Its Worth

At 8.5 weeks, it's already time for our first puppy to leave the nest. Our purple girl, now called Tallulah for short, headed off with Michelle to her new home in Sparkill, New York. We met Michelle last year at Westminster Meet the Breeds and she is now going home with her own very special Barbet. We look forward to seeing what events these two will do together!

Flynn Wins in Orlando

I was honored for Flynn to win Best of Breed in an entry of 12 Barbet and then win the Miscellaneous group in Orlando at the Barbet Club of America Open Show. We are pictured with judge Jamie Hubbard and BCA Show Chair Lynn Byfield. This was such a thrill at the first event ever hosted by the Barbet Club. With this win, Flynn also finished her Certificate of Merit to become

6 Weeks!

Barbet Puppies at 6 Weeks

It's almost time for the 6 week birthday of Marlee's puppies! This time has flown by, partially because I was in Orlando for the AKC National Championship and partially because these puppies have felt so much older the entire time. This litter has been quick to do everything. They are so bright and engaged; a true pleasure to have in our home. In the next few weeks, we will make our final decisions on which pup will stay with us and who will be placed in homes around the country. I couldn't be more satisfied with the progress of these pups so far.

Sweet Sleepers

The puppies are doing great! Their eyes are now open and they can toddle around their box. They have also learned to bark! However, their still spend most of their time sleeping.

The puppies are now one week and two days old. Everyone is doing so well. I am thrilled with the consistency I see throughout the litter and am really looking forward to seeing them grow.
