US Canada Barbet Relations

Today, as Claire and I drove across the Peace Bridge with the American and Canadian flags flying in the breeze, I was struck by the similarity of our journey in the Barbet world. In the United States, there are currently only 3 people actively breeding Barbet. When I bought Claire almost 4 years ago, I went to Canada to pick her up from breeder Florence Erwin. Claire and I made a few trips to Canada to show in the CKC and finish her Canadian championship. I have a lot of good friends in Canada who also show their Barbet, and we enjoy getting together at the shows. In this breeding for Claire, I chose an active young Canadian dog bred and owned by Chris and Ula Pepper, and co-owned with Paul Hunter. I'm excited to be working with the Peppers and to extend the circle of my Canadian dog friends. Without the Canadian Barbet, there would be very few Barbet in the United States. I am anxiously awaiting going back to Long Sault, ON in August for the Club Barbet Canada waterfront shows.  Vive le Canada!
